UK comedy show Little Britain has won the Best Comedy award in New York for Little Britain Abroad, at the 35th annual International Emmy Awards.
In fact British comedy shows (most of them BBC productions) won seven out of eight nominations at the ceremony – which celebrates television programmes which are produced outside of the United States.
Other winning British shows included the documentary by Stephen Fry called The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, best actor for Jim Broadbent for The Street and best non-scripted entertainment went to How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?
British comedienne Victoria Wood was nominated for Housewife 49, but missed out as Muriel Robin from France walked away with the award.
The sketch show Little Britain is the creation of Matt Lucas and David Walliams. Matt Lucas appeared with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer in The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer. He later moved on to Shooting Stars and via a number of TV shows and writing projects, before teaming up with David Walliams.
Little Britain started out as a radio program on BBC Radio 4 before becoming a TV series and moving across to BB2 and then BBC1, as well as comedy DVDs. International success has ensured that Little Britain's many catch phrases have ingrained themselves into popular culture.
