Paul Merton has published a book about some of his favourite comedians from the black and white silent movie era.
The star of television's Have I Got News For You has written the book which covers the careers of some of the stars of silent comedy, such as slapstick duo Laurel and Hardy, stunt comedy genius Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and of course Charlie Chaplin.
Simply titled Silent Comedy, Merton also explores some of the techniques behind many of the gags that these comics of yesteryear performed.
Merton also casts a professional eye over the methods and history of the performers and their art and charts how their humour evolved.
Silent Comedy is published by Random House and costs £25.
